What are the benefits of
ASCA membership?

Professional development

ASCA sponsors an annual conference to train school leaders on how to effectively communicate with the media and community, manage a crisis situation, improve the image of public education, etc.

Members are also available as part of the ASCA Speakers Bureau to help provide training and professional development for your school organization.

Networking with fellow colleagues

ASCA provides a network of support for school leaders who have communications/media relations as a major part of their primary responsibilities.

Veteran ASCA members have provided vital support and information to "rookies" who are just beginning in this career field.

Shared resources

ASCA has purchased copies of books and tapes that deal with school relations issues. These materials are available to be checked out by members from the ASCA Resource Library.

  • Are you working on a communication plan for your system?
  • Do you need to conduct a communication audit?
  • Do you need new ideas for a newsletter, brochure, annual report, or parent handbook?

Chances are, an ASCA member has the information you need and would be happy to share these resources with you.

PROS Newsletter

The Alabama Department of Educations Communication Section produced a monthly electronic newsletter called PROS: Public Relations in Our Schools. This newsletter is filled with helpful articles from state and national school public relations (PR) professionals. It also includes up-to-date education news on issues such as No Child Left Behind, grant alerts, local school success stories, and much more.

Members of ASCA are automatically added to the electronic distribution list to receive PROS and are encouraged to share story ideas to promote their school system or to share helpful PR strategies with fellow colleagues. Download the latest PROS here.
